This specimen was lot 209 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €2,200 (about US$3,113 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "United States - Hapa Haneri or Cent 1847, Copper, KAMEHAMEHA III 1825-1854, HAWAII Uniformed bust facing. Rev. value within wreath. Crosslet 4, 9 berries on both sides. RR. Very rare in this high grade! NGC MS64 BN." This type was struck in numerous varieties (plain vs. crosslet 4, 13, 15, 17 or 18 berries in wreath). Most were melted upon American annexation but many still survive but few are choice.
Recorded mintage: 100,000 (all varieties).
Specification: 9 g, copper, 27 mm diameter.
