The specimen shown is a five centimes of a type struck under the Third Republic of France 1898-1921. All are Paris mint issues. There are 32 dates in the series, some expensive but only the 1921 is rare. The 1916 is a common date. The total production for the series is about 211 million. The design was also used on bronze one, two and ten centimes of the Belle Epoque. All the bronze five centimes pieces were demonetized in 1935.

Recorded mintage: 41,531,365.

Specification: 5 g, bronze, 25 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean-Baptiste Daniel-Dupuis (1849-99).
