This specimen was lot 1243 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 2,000 CHF (about US$2,399 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Stolberg-Stolberg, Grafschaft, Christoph Ludwig II. und Friedrich Botho. 1739-1761 Dukat 1748. Stolberg Jahreszahl im Stempel aus 1747 geändert. Vorzüglich. Min. Gewellt. (Germany, county of Stolberg-Stolberg, Christof Louis II and Frederick Botho, 1739-61, ducat of 1748. Date engraved over 1747, Extremely fine, Slightly wavy planchet.)"
This type was struck 1740-43, 1748-50 and 1757. It is scarce but not rare. For 1748-IIG, the SCWC has no mention of the obvious overdate shown here.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3.45 g.
