Sincona sale 38, lot 1577

This specimen was lot 1577 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 1,700 CHF (about US$2,039 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Carlo Alberto, 1831-1849 20 Lire 1832. Genova Mit Riffelrand. contorno rigato. Selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. (kingdom of Sardinia, Charles Albert, 1831-49, twenty lire of 1832, Genoa mint, reeded edge, rotated reverse. Rare. Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1832-45 at Turin and Genoa (shown here). Tho not rare, it is much less common than the issues of Victor Emanuel II (1850-60). The Genoa issues are scarcer than the Turin issues even tho the mintages are generally larger. This date comes with reeded or lettered edge.

Recorded mintage: 73,033.

Specification: 6.45 grams, 0.900 fine gold, .186 troy oz AGW, this specimen 6.46 g.

Catalog reference: Nomisma 639. Schl. 243. Fr-1143, KM 131.2.
