Sincona sale 90, lot 1388

This specimen was lot 1388 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Parma, Ferdinando di Borbone, 1765-1802. 4 Doppie 1796 S, Parma. Sehr selten. PCGS AU50. (Italy, duchy of Parma, Ferdinand of Bourbon, 1765-1802, four doppie of 1796, Parma mint. Very rare, graded PCGS AU-50.)"

Duke Ferdinando was descended from Philip V of Spain and thru him Louis XIV of France. This type is listed in the SCWC for 1787-96. All the dates are rare. Doppia means "double," and this coin is roughly two ducats. Half, four, six and eight doppie also exist but are rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.56 g, 0.891 fine gold.

Catalog reference: KM C20a, MIR 1060/4. Fr-928.
