This specimen was lot 3801 in Sincona sale 9 (Zürich, October 2012), where it sold for 175 CHF (about US$221 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Lübeck, Stadt Taler zu 48 Schilling 1758. Vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Lubeck, thaler of 48 schillings of 1752, extremely fine.)"
This issue is the most common Lubeck thaler-size coin of the eighteenth century. It was struck in numerous varieties (Dav-2420A thru Dav-2420E) too tedious to discriminate here. The real Lubeck thaler was 29.2 g and of higher fineness but this type was close enough to earn a Davenport number. This type was also struck in gold (Fr-1499).
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 27.51 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 27.27 g.
Catalog reference: Behrens 291a, Dav-2420; KM-168.
