This specimen was lot 2377 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$669 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE Republik, seit 1818. 5 Pesos 1873, Santiago. Sehr schön (Very fine)." This type was struck without change in Santiago, Chile, 1867-73 and succeeded a very similar type (KM 130) that was struck 1854-67. Mintages are generally smaller than those of the larger ten pesos. The succeeding type was considerably smaller.
Recorded mintage: 50,000.
Specification: 7.63 g, 0.900 fine gold, .220 troy oz AGW, this specimen 7.52 g.
Catalog reference: KM 144, Fr-46.
