Sincona sale 69, lot 1415

This specimen was lot 1415 in Sincona sale 69 (Zürich, May 2021), where it sold for 500 CHF (about US$664 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ZYPERN. Victoria, 1837-1901. 1 Piastre 1881 H, Heaton. Schmale 1. Selten in dieser Erhaltung. NGC AU53 BN. (Cyprus, Victoria, 1837-1901, one piastre of 1881, Heaton mint, thin "1". Rare in this condition, about uncirculated.)"

This type, one-ninth of a shilling, was struck in small numbers 1879-1900 with the early subtype dating 1879-81. It is not rare in low grade.

Recorded mintage: 36,000 (incl. KM 3.2 with thick "1"). a scarce date.

Specification: bronze.
