Sincona sale 80, lot 5081

This specimen was lot 5081 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it sold for 34,000 CHF (about US$40,749 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND | Bern | Stadt und Kanton, 8 Dukaten 1797, Bern. Goldabschlag vom Halbtaler. Gekröntes Stadtwappen. Rv. Stehender Krieger mit Langschwert. Im Abschnitt die Jahreszahl. Laubrand. Sehr selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. Korrosionsspuren bei der Umschrift auf der Vorderseite und Hairlines auf der Rückseite. (canton of Bern, eight ducats of 1797, Bern mint, struck using half thaler dies. Obverse: crowned city arms; reverse: standing warrior with long sword, date below in laurel wreath. Very rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Traces of corrosion in the legend on the obverse and minor hairlines on the reverse.)"
