This specimen was lot 30797 in Heritage sale 3037 (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,412.35. The catalog description[1] noted, "Bern. Canton gold 1/2 Duplone 1797 MS63 Prooflike NGC. Superb strike with glowing mirrored fields. A superior example of this one-year type." This rare type was struck 1797 while Switzerland was a satellite of the French republic. Single duplones (Fr-187) and double duplones (Fr-186) also exist. A half duplone was worth about a ducat.
