George Frederick was a Hohenzollern prince who acted as regent for duke Albert Frederick of Prussia 1569-1603. Albert Frederick died in 1618, leaving only daughters, so George Frederick's son John Sigismund inherited both Brandenburg and Prussia. This type was struck in small numbers 1587-97.

This specimen was lot 586 in Sincona sale 6 (Zürich, May 2012), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$738 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
