This specimen was lot 2658 in Sincona sale 80 (Zürich, October 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Genova, Battista di Campofregoso, 1478-1483. Ducato o. J. Genova. Extremely fine." The Campofregoso family contributed at least seven different doges to the republic of Genoa. Battista (1450-1504) seized the ducal title in 1478 and managed to hold it until he was overthrown by his uncle Paolo, a cardinal in the church. After various adventures, he died in Rome, having never returned to his native city. The ducats of Genoa are generally scarce and were often called genovini.
