This specimen was lot 31288 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $1,560. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Denmark: Frederik VII Proof 16 Skilling Rigsmont 1856-VS PR66 NGC, Copenhagen mint. An extremely rare Proof, deep reflective surfaces alight with dappled gold and steel blue patina, exceedingly few contact marks to the sleek lustrous surfaces. Almost never offered, only one other of these proofs has been certified by NGC (a PR62) and none by PCGS. Accordingly, this beautiful rarity has our full confidence in eliciting strong bidding. From the Feeling Good Collection." Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. This type was struck 1856-58 and was one-sixth of a rigsdaler. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = one krone.
