This specimen was lot 9358 in Ponterio sale 151 (Baltimore, November 2009), where it sold for $862.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. 2 Taler, 1841. CHOICE ALMOST UNCIRCULATED." Schwarzburg-Sondershausen is one of the miscellaneous Saxon duchies in what is now Thuringia. When this coin was issued, it was ruled by duke Gunther Friedrich Carl II (1835-80). This type was issued 1841, 1845 and 1854 and all dates are scarce. The duchy was absorbed into Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt in 1909.

Specification: 37.12 g, 0.900 fine silver, 1.07 troy oz ASW.
