Canada issued silver five cent pieces 1858-1921. In 1920, the coin was debased from .925 to 0.800 fine, then in 1921 it was converted to a nickel piece very similar to the U. S. five cent coin. This specimen was lot 70337 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "CANADA. 5 Cents, 1920. NGC MS-66. Two year type. Housed in an older generation NGC holder. Sharply struck with rich attractive toning. A lovely example which very clearly sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed. Quite handsome."
Recorded mintage: 10,649,851.
Specification: 1.16 grams, 0.800 fine silver, reeded edge.
Catalog reference: KM-22a.
