This issue is a common date of a type struck at the Paris mint for France 1966-2001. Some of the later dates, such as 1989 and 1999-2001, are only available from FDC sets. This type was accompanied by a similar twenty, ten and fifty centimes (until 1964). All were demonetized with the coming of the euro in 2002.

Recorded mintage: 150,002,447.

Specification: 2 g, aluminum-bronze, 17 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Henri Lagriffoul (1907-81) and Adrien Dieudonné (1912-82).
