This specimen was lot 1019 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €9,600 (about US$10,639 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Extremely Rare "Hungarian" Ducat with Rich Golden Color, DENMARK. Goldgulden (Ungersk Gylden), 1604. Christian IV. NGC AU-53. Mintmaster: Nicolaus Schwabe. An EXTREMELY RARE type, these "Hungarian" Guldens continued to be struck as "Ducats" until 1802 with the same weight and fineness. Somewhat unevenly struck but with a rich golden toning and only limited signs of actual handling."
Christian IV (r. 1588-1648) had a long but not particularly successful reign. His war with Sweden and his intervention in the Thirty Years War were costly and brought little gain.
