This specimen was lot 40695 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $5,288. The catalog description[1] noted, "MEXICO. Peso, 1913. PCGS MS-67. Tied for finest certified of the type. A sharply struck superb gem." This specimen is a "Caballito" peso struck at Mexico City 1910-14. It is the last full weight peso from Mexico, ending a tradition going back to colonial times. The type was terminated in 1914, a result of the chaos of the Revolution.
Recorded mintage: 2,880,000.
