Sincona sale 31, lot 39

This specimen was lot 39 in Sincona sale 31 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$356 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "OTTOMAN TUNIS | Mustafa III (1171-1187ah/1757-1774ce) 8 kharub 1188ah (1774ce) Bi RR -vf (weakness). This coin was minted posthumously after Mustafa's death in 1187ah because, more than likely, the news of his passing did not reach the Tunis Mint on time. Cf. also lot #41(n)." This type was struck AH 1187-88. Eight kharub were also struck in the name of his successor Abdul Hamid (KM 64). Eight kharub made half a piastre or riyal.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: billon, 6.2-8.0 g, 28-29 mm diameter, this specimen 7.01 g.

Catalog reference: Fen 92, KM 59.
