Sincona sale 78, lot 488

This specimen was lot 488 in Sincona sale 78 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$300 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA | Russian Empire and Federation | Nicholas I. 1825-1855, 20 Kopecks - 40 Groszy 1844, Warsaw Mint, MW. Rare in this condition. NGC MS65." This type was struck in Warsaw 1842-50 in limited numbers while Poland was under Russian rule (1815-1918). Forty groszy equaled twenty kopeks or 1-1/3 of a zloty.
