This specimen was lot 4424 in Stack's-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $423. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND. Bern. Taler, 1679-G. NGC EF Details--Surface Hairlines. Some hairlines present. Light adjustment marks. Toned." The climbing bear is the badge of Bern, Switzerland. This type is scarce, like most of the Bernese thalers of the seventeenth century.
