Sincona sale 90, lot 1399

This specimen was lot 1399 in Sincona sale 90 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$628 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIEN Savoyen / Sardinien, Vittorio Emanuele II. 1849-1861. 2 Lire 1850, Genova. Von grösster Seltenheit. Schön. Überarbeitet. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Victor Emanuel II, 1849-61, two lire of 1850, Genoa mint. Of the highest rarity, Fine, Tooled.)"

This type was struck at Turni 1850-56 and 1860 and at Genoa 1850 and 1854. The Turin issue (eagle head mintmark) is scarce and the Genoa issue (anchor mintmark, shown here) is very rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, this specimen 9.60 g.

Catalog reference: KM 143.2, Mont. 63 (R4), Pagani 391.
