Sincona sale 84, lot 440

This specimen was lot 440 in Sincona sale 84 (Zurich, October 2023), where it sold for 2,200 CHF (about US$2,963 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, Rouble 1870, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB NI. Rare date. 2.25 roubles according to Petrov. NGC MS61."

This type was struck 1859-85 in respectable quantities but not so many as the prior type (Dav-283).

Recorded mintage: 386,000, a better date.

Specification: 20.73 g, 0.868 fine silver.
