Austria 1911 10 corona

Jean Elsen sale 135, lot 1275

This specimen was lot 1275 in Jean Elsen sale 135 (Brussels, December 2017), where it sold for €110 (about US$152 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"AUTRICHE, François Joseph Ier (1848-1916), AV 10 couronnes, 1911. Fines griffes au droit. Superbe/Fleur de Coin. (Austria-Hungary, Francis Joseph I, 1848-1916, gold ten coronas of 1911. Fine scratches on the obverse, Extremely Fine/Uncirculated.)"

This gold coin, among the last issued before Austria's suicidal plunge into World War One, was struck 1909-12. The Austro-Hungarian empire did not long survive the death of Francis Joseph in 1916. Restrikes exist of the 1912.
