This specimen was lot 202 in Sincona sale 63 (Zurich, June 2020), where it sold for 2,800 CHF (about US$3,509 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND | Baden-Durlach, Markgrafschaft, ab 1806 Grossherzogtum, Leopold, 1830-1852. Dukat 1843, Karlsruhe. Aus Rheingold. Mit verkehrter 1 in der Jahreszahl. Nur 1'350 Exemplare geprägt. Vorzüglich-FDC. Feine Kratzer. (Germany, grand duchy of Baden, Leopold, 1830-52, ducat of 1843, Karlsruhe mint, from Rhine gold. Mintage only 1'350 pieces, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Minor hairlines.)"
The SCWC divides the Badenish ducats of 1832-42 into two types (KM 201 and KM 208) but Friedberg lumps them together. This type was struck 1843-46. All dates are rare.
Recorded mintage: 1,350.
Specification: 3.68 g, 0.938 fine gold, this specimen 3.66 g.
