This specimen was lot 2195 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $587.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "PANAMA. 150 Balboas, 1980-FM. Franklin Mint. NGC MS-67. 150th anniversary of the death of Simon Bolivar. From a mintage of only 169 pieces. Prooflike and brilliant, highly attractive. From the Richard Stuart Collection." This denomination was used twice, for KM-43 and this one. Unfortunately, collecting Panamanian coins lost its popularity after the Franklin mint overissued proof sets and commemoratives in the 1970's and 1980's. For years, few Panamanian coins sold for more than melt.

Recorded mintage: 169 plus 1,837 proofs.

Specification: 7.67 g, 0.500 fine gold, .122 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Fr-13; KM-68; CNP-Type #66.
