Sincona sale 88, lot 102

This specimen was lot 102 in Sincona sale 88 (Zurich, May 2024), where it sold for 1,300 CHF (about US$1,718 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Afsharid Dynasty, Shahrokh, 1st reign, 1161-1163 AH (1748-1750). Ashrafi 1163 AH (1750), Mashhad Mint. Sehr selten; Very rare. NGC MS63. Purchased from A. Shams, Frankfurt, in 1988."

Shahrokh survived the immediate turmoil after Nader's assassination and sat on the throne three times, AH 1161-63, AH 1163-66 and AH 1168-1210. He was finally murdered in 1796 after the Qajar takeover. This rare type is the only ashrafi from this reign.
