This is a peso minted in Santiago, Chile, in 1882. It is a common date of a common type struck 1868-91 but nice examples are always worth a premium. This specimen was lot 2539 in Goldberg sale 34 (Beverly Hills, February 2006), where it sold for $425. The catalog description[1] noted, "Chile. Peso, 1882. Republic. Rainbow toning on eagle side and light golden tone on the other side. NGC graded MS-64." An overdate, 1882/1, is noted for the year.

Recorded mintage: 1,648,000.

Specification: 25 g, 0.900 fine silver, .723 troy oz ASW, reeded edge, 37 mm diameter.
