Brazil 1942 100 reis rev 600.jpg

Shown is a copper-nickel 100 réis of the United States of Brazil. This is the regular issue, struck 1938-42. Commemorative 100 réis were issued in the 1930's which, not surprisingly, are much easier to find in nice condition than this type. The 100 réis was abolished in 1942 with the reform of the coinage in that year. The portrait is of Getulio Vargas, president and dictator of Brazil until 1945.

Recorded mintage: 1,285,000.

Specification: 2.53 g, copper-nickel, 16.8 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 544.
