Portugal 1995 5 escudos rev DSL.jpg

In 1910, Portugal, having ousted her king, dropped the réis and adopted the escudo, divided into 100 centavos. The specimen shown is from a type struck for Portugal 1986-2000, after which the denomination was suspended. The escudo was retired in 2001 when Portugal joined the euro.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 5.25 g, nickel brass, reeded edge.

Catalog reference: KM 596.
