This specimen was lot 1634 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $443.68. The catalog description[1] noted, "Lima, Peru, 1 real, 1832MM, encapsulated NGC MS 62, finest (and only) known specimen graded by NGC. Good strike except for crude parts of rims, light rainbow-toning over good luster." This type was struck 1826-1840 at the Lima mint. The date is listed in the SCWC as a slightly scarce date, though all Peruvian minors are scarcer in nice condition than the catalog values would indicate. Assayer MM is recorded for 1831-35. It was legal tender in the United States until 1857 for 12½¢.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.38 g, 0.903 fine silver, .098 troy oz ASW.
