This specimen was lot 1455 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $5,445. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Republica de Nueva Granada. 1830-1859. AV 2 Pesos. Popayán mint. Dated 1842 UM/VU. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Unbelievable rich gold lustrous surfaces with incredible strike. A true gem. This over-mintmark is unlisted by KM. One of the finest Colombian gold coins we have seen in any denomination. Purchased from M. Louis Teller, May 1988." This type was struck 1838-46 at Popayán only. The Bogotá mint restricted itself to gold pesos and sixteen pesos during this period.
