This specimen was lot 70855 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, February 2020), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Penny, 1916. London Mint. PCGS MS-65 Red Gold Shield. A near flawless British copper that is brilliant red with major eye appeal." This type was struck in large numbers 1911-26 and worn specimens fill dealer junk boxes. A slightly modified bust was used 1927-36.

Recorded mintage: 86,411,000, a common date.

Specification: 9.4 g, bronze, 31 mm diameter.
