This specimen was lot 3156 in Sincona sale 20 (Zurich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 1,200 (about US$1,504 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "10000 Reis 1880. Lissabon. Vorzüglich-FDC. (extremely fine to uncirculated.)" This type was struck in Lisbon 1878-89 and is one of the more common of Portuguese gold coins. Gold 2000 and 5000 réis bearing this portrait also exist along with a series of silver issues.
