Heritage sale 3024, lot 23827
from Heritage Auction Galleries

This specimen was lot 23827 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $1,703.75. The catalog description[2] noted, "Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1742/1-A, AU58 PCGS, nicely toned with bold details and full mint bloom, minor surface encrustation on the reverse." The louis d'or au bandeau was struck in France 1740-74 and is the commonest gold coin of Louis XV after the louis d'or aux lunettes of 1726-40. This product of the Paris mint is noted as common tho no overdate is mentioned.

Recorded mintage: 65,589[1].

Specification: 8.16 g, 0.917 fine gold, 24 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by J.-C. Röettiers.
