Colombia 1928M 5 pesos rev H3029-30463.jpg

This type was struck at Medellin 1924-30. It and the matching 2½ pesos replaced the "minero" type issued 1913-19. It is among the last gold coins issued in Colombia for circulation. This specimen was lot 30463 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $470. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 5 Pesos 1928-Medellin, MS65 NGC. A choice piece with virtually flawless surfaces. Both E's in MEDELLIN are F's (as are all known coins of this date.)"

Recorded mintage: 314,000.

Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW (same standard as a British sovereign).
