This type was struck at Medellin 1924-30. It and the matching 2½ pesos replaced the "minero" type issued 1913-19. It is among the last gold coins issued in Colombia for circulation. This specimen was lot 419 in Sedwick sale 9 (Fort Lauderdale, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $494.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Medellin, Colombia, 5 pesos, 1929, encapsulated NGC MS-65. Gem BU with near prooflike luster. Dr. Frank Sedwick collection of Colombian Republic gold coins."
Recorded mintage: 321,000.
Specification: 7.99 g, 0.917 fine gold, .235 troy oz AGW (same standard as a British sovereign).
