This specimen was lot 1293 in Sincona sale 6 (Zurich, May 2012), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"FRANKREICH Strassburg, Stadt Goldgulden o. J. (1601). Reichsapfel im doppelten Sechspass. Rv. Thronende Madonna, darunter kleines Wappen. Sehr schön. (Germany, city of Strasbourg, undated gold gulden (circa 1601). Obverse: imperial orb in double six-petalled flower; reverse: enthroned Madonna and Child, small shield below, very fine.)"
Strasbourg was an imperial free city until it was seized and annexed by Louis XVI in 1681, ending its independent coinage, altho the mint remained open, producing French coins. This type is not listed in the SCWC.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 3.5 g, .986 fine gold, .110 troy oz AGW; this specimen is 3,15 g.
