This specimen was lot 1256 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $514.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA, Republic. 1825-present. Specimen CU-NI 10 Centavos. Heaton (Birmingham) mint. Dated 1892 H. In NGC encapsulation graded Specimen 65. Brilliant mint state. Tiny spot in the field near denomination. This coin is basically a proof and extremely rare. Purchased from Meridian Coin Company, April 1970." After the failure of 1883, the Bolivian government tried again with this copper-nickel ten centavos ordered from the Heaton mint. This issue was not a success but later issues of 1893-99 did circulate.
Recorded mintage: 1,000,000 plus proofs.
Specification: copper nickel, this specimen Ø25 mm, 4.98 g, 12h axis.
Catalog reference: KM 172.
