Künker sale 352, lot 1714

This specimen was lot 1714 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,900 (about US$2,644 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE GEISTLICHKEIT IN DEN HABSBURGISCHEN ERBLANDEN, SALZBURG, ERZBISTUM, Ferdinand, 1803-1806. Dukat 1805. GOLD. R Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Ferdinand, 1803-06, ducat of 1805. Choice, Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

The archbishopric of Salzburg was secularized in 1803 and its rule handed over to a Hapsburg archduke, Ferdinand. In 1813, the state was annexed to Austria, which rules it to this day. This scarce type was struck 1805-06.

Recorded mintage: unknown but fairly scarce.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold, this specimen 3,44 g in gold.

Catalog reference: KM 498, Fr-889; Zöttl 3405.
