This specimen was lot 1647 in Sincona sale 22 (Zurich, May 2015), where it sold for 80 CHF (about US$101 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha, Herzogtum, Ernst II. 1844-1893 Taler 1846. Dresden Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Ernest II (1844-93), thaler of 1846, Dresden mint, very fine or better.)"
This one year type is scarce but not rare. A similar double thaler (Dav-822) exists. Ernest's brother Albert became Prince Consort to queen Victoria of England.
Recorded mintage: 32,000.
Specification: 22.27 g, .750 fine silver, this specimen 22.07 g.
