This specimen was lot 73508 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $192. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. Catalonia. 3 Quartos, 1841. Isabel II. NGC MS-64 Brown. An alluring provincial issue, this deep violet-brown near Gem is exceeded in the NGC census by just one specimen. Ex: R. L. Lissner Collection." This copper coin was issued from Barcelona for use there and in Catalonia. It was issued 1836-46 and accompanied by a copper six cuartos. In the local currency, three cuartos = 1/40 peso. This coin is not common but priced rather low in the SCWC. The last local Catalonian issue is a rare six cuartos dated 1848, after which regular Spanish coinage was used.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper, 6.6 g, 26.0-26.2 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: Cayón-16665, KM 126.
