This specimen was part of lot 34250 in Heritage sale 3038 (Dallas, January 2015), which sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description<sup>[1]</sup> noted, "Republic Lot of Fifteen 2 Reales Coins, All different dates, average grade is Fine." This type was struck 1836-41 and normally encountered in Fine or lower. It varies from the later type (KM 21, struck 1837-38) in having the obverse and reverse legends transposed. It is lightweight and debased, similar to the infamous Bolivian two reales of 1830. It is scarce, but not rare, but its strong resemblance to a United States bust quarter of the years 1831-38 increases demand for it and it routinely yields over catalog value in auctions.
