This specimen was lot 42828 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $432. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRENCH GUIANA. 2 Sous, 1782-A. Paris Mint. Louis XVI (1774-92). PCGS MS-64 Gold Shield. Cayenne Colony, struck in billon. Lustrous with light attractive toned." This type is listed for 1780-90 but the SCWC notes that counterfeits abound. Worn specimens typically show no signs of silver.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: billon.
Catalog reference: KM-1.
