China G106-1701r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1701 in Goldberg sale 106 (Los Angeles, September 2018), where it sold for $156. The catalog description[1] noted, "China. 50 Yuan, 2005. Panda cub and mom seated in bamboo. NGC graded MS-69." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. The gold panda is one of the most popular. Prior to 2001, the one tenth ounce panda was denominated 10 yuan. The Chinese government issued twelve different panda coins in 2005, as follows:

Recorded mintage: 150,000.

Specification: 3.11 g, .999 fine gold, 0.100 troy oz AGW, 18 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM-1585.
