Künker Auction 424, lot 621

This specimen was lot 621 in Künker Auction 424 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €1,200 (about US$1,699 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHE MÜNZEN UND MEDAILLEN · PASSAU, BISTUM Wigileus Fröschl von Marzoll, 1500-1517. Groschen (Schilling) 1509. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Patina, fast sehr schön. Exemplar der Auktion Münchner Münzhandlung Karl Kreß 110, München 1958, Nr. 687. (Germany, bishopric of Passau, Wigileus Fröschl von Marzoll, 1500-1517, groschen or schilling of 1509. Extremely rare, fine patina, about very fine.)"

This type was struck in 1509; supposedly a 1516 also exists. Twenty groschen made a thaler. The bishopric of Passau was annexed to Bavaria in 1803 and 1805.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specifications: silver or billon, this specimen 3,73 g.

Catalog reference: KM MB22, Kellner 58.
