This specimen was lot 71048 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $1,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Mysore. Rupee, AM 1218, Year 8 (1789). Patan Mint. NGC MS-65. KM-126. A real beauty. Single finest certified at NGC. Sharply struck with soft satin luster and highly attractive. Ex: Paul Stevens Collection." The Indian state of Mysore, under her rulers Haider Ali (1761-82) and Tipu Sultan (1782-99), was a serious thorn in the side of the British Raj. This type was struck AM 1200, 1216-1223 and was accompanied by a half rupee (KM 125) and double rupee (KM 127). Rupees were also struck at the Dharwar, Farrukhi, Nagar, Khurshed-Sawad, Kalikut mints.
