Revision as of 13:10, 13 June 2025
This specimen was lot 3651 in Sincona sale 20 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 6,500 (about US$8,146 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "[Bern.] 3 Dukaten 1707. Gekröntes doppeltes Wappen. Rv. Mann und Frau mit Tuch. Selten. Fast FDC. (Bern, three ducats of 1707. Obverse: crowned dual arms; reverse: man and woman supporting banner; rare, choice uncirculated.)" The climbing bear is the badge of Bern, Switzerland. This type, like all Bernese gold coins of the eighteenth century, is rare and expensive.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 10.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .221 troy oz AGW, this specimen 10.41 g.
