Sincona sale 47, lot 2627

This specimen was lot 2627 in Sincona sale 47 (Zürich, May 2018), where it sold for 4,500 CHF (about US$5,400 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND, Bern, Stadt und Kanton, Doppeldukat 1703. Sehr selten in dieser Erhaltung. PCGS MS62. (city and canton of Bern, double ducat of 1703. Very rare in this condition, uncirculated.)"

The climbing bear is the badge of Bern, Switzerland. This type, like all Bernese gold coins of the eighteenth century, is rare and expensive.

Specification: 7 g, 0.986 fine gold, .221 troy oz AGW.
