Sincona sale 11, lot 1009

This specimen was lot 1009 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 160 CHF (about US$198 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Schwarzenberg, Fürstentum Ferdinand Wilhelm Eusebius und Anna von Sulz, 1683-1703. Taler 1696, Kremnitz. Hksp. und Felder lt. bearb. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (Germany, principality of Schwarzenberg, Ferdinand William Eusebius and Anna of Salz, 1683-1703, thaler of 1696, Kremnitz mint. Mounted and tooled, very fine.)"

This thaler was struck in Kremnitz for the count of Schwarzenberg, distinguished more as a soldier in the Austrian service than as a sovereign prince. This type is the most common from this county but it is still scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 28.34 g.

Catalog reference: KM-17; Dav-7702; Tannich 11.
